Nicole Chalmers: Designer
Art Churn is a husband and wife creative studio run by Hannah and Todd Churn. Together, they create compelling animations, beautiful illustrations, and sell fun arty products. Art Churn came to us to help re-brand and bring cohesion to their visual identity.

The Re-Brand
Art Churn’s new identity was based around their animation roots. Using a hand lettered custom typeface, bright colors, and adaptive illustrations, we created a bold and welcoming visual identity toolkit to be used throughout Art Churn’s marketing efforts.

The Illustrations
Meet Squash and Stretch, Art Churn’s friendly mascots! These two were created based on the foundations of animation (the squash and stretch techniques). We created these characters to work in the same way that “Face” from 90’s Nick Jr. functioned. They can change their shape to fit the seasons and tones of the events or marketing efforts they are representing. To add movement to these visuals we also included a blob-like fluid, and hand-drawn swirly arrows to be layered and interactive with the characters, product photography, and type.

Process
We always knew we would be approaching the designs in a hand-drawn manner, but we went through a few iterations before arriving at our final layout.
